New Chairmen for IMMa and the Minerals Divisions

It was all change at the Board meetings of the Minerals Divisions held on Thursday 27 January at the IOM3 headquarters in Carlton House Terrace.  Dr Pat Foster chaired the Mining Technology Division board for the first time, having recently taken over the chair from Professor Bob Pine.  At the parallel meeting of the Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy Division board, it was unanimously agreed that Mr Tony Francis will take over the chair of that board from Professor John Monhemius at its next meeting, subject to ratification by the Nominations committee.

At the IMMa committee meeting, which followed the Divisional board meetings, the current IMMa chairman, Mr Michael Forrest, who has completed his two year appointment, handed over to his successor, Mr Martin Cox.  Martin, who represents the Petroleum and Drilling Engineering Division, takes over the IMMa chair at an opportune time, just as the major oil companies, led by BP, and worried by competency issues in the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico offshore oil well blow-out disaster, are in discussion with the Institute about accreditation and chartering requirements for all their engineering staff.
