IOM3 HK - Technical Visit to Central Kowloon Route – Kai Tak West
The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) Hong Kong Branch organised a one-day technical visit to Central Kowloon Route – Kai Tak West on 22 June 2019.
Central Kowloon Route (CKR) is a proposed dual 3-lane trunk road across central Kowloon linking the West Kowloon in the west and the proposed Kai Tak Development (KTD) in the east. It will connect the West Kowloon Highway at Yau Ma Tei Interchange with the road network at Kowloon Bay and the future Trunk Road T2 at KTD in order to fulfil the need for additional traffic capacity on the east-west road links across central Kowloon, particularly for coping with the new developments on its western and eastern sides.
This technical visit was split into a project briefing and on-site visit session. During the project briefing session, our speaker presented Kai Tak West (KTW) is 1 of the 8 Contracts under the CKR. The main work of KTW includes the construction of tunnels under the seabed of Kowloon Bay and at Ma Tau Kok, and depressed roads and underpass at KTD. In the on-site visit, it focused on the cut and cover construction method and experience sharing for Contract management for this Contract.
