 The proposed Lincolnshire Reservoir will help secure future water supplies by storing water during wetter periods for use during droughts. However, the region&rsquo;s complex glacial and periglacial history has resulted in challenging near-surface geology, including fault systems, buried channels and large glacial boulders. These features could have significant implications for the design and construction of the reservoir.<br />\n
 This presentation will cover the temporary works design and investigation of the glacial deposits using large observational trial pits, more akin to small quarries than standard trial pits. It will explore the practical challenges encountered in designing, constructing and logging these pits, along with how field observations, surveying and 3D modelling are contributing to the ground model for the project.<br />\n
