SUMMARY:The Role of Advanced Photovoltaics in Next-Gen Aerospace and Defence
DESCRIPTION:Sign Up Link : https://forms.gle/n2Xu2H4972ThUtDn6 We&#39;re happy to welcome an alumnus of Swansea University, Dr Declan Hughes to talk to us about the future of Advanced Photovoltaics. Photovoltaics represent the critical energy generation source of modern satellites, large fixed wing stratospheric drones, and autonomous intelligence systems. As global security and communication frameworks become increasingly reliant on continuous power, the demand for highly resilient energy sources has reached an all-time high. This will be a deep-dive into how next-generation solar cells are transforming aerospace systems and the role advanced photovoltaics play in developing platforms for the future. This will involve a dive into the requirements for aerospace PV systems and how the current market leaders have met these challenges using custom, highly efficient III-V multi-junction semiconductors. The discussion will then pivot to tomorrow&#39;s disruptive technological horizon. We will explore the potential of next-generation metal-halide perovskite solar cells, flexible rollable blankets, and the concept of Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP). Dr Hughes will also talk about his journey through the world of semiconductors, and the world leading role South Wales is playing in the development of semiconductor manufacturing.<br />\n
