As Materials World goes to press, the new IOM3 system for managing our member and contacts data is in the process of being configured and a new Member Portal is being set up. The new integrated system will replace the current legacy membership database. We are due to make the changeover at the end of January after a period of intensive testing when we return after the Christmas break.
Our 150th Anniversary year is drawing to a close and, looking back over the months, it is clear that 2019 has been an extremely busy and productive time for IOM3. These activities have been captured in a short video which can be viewed on IOM3 TV. There have also been a variety of important changes and developments that mark a new start for us.
The Institute has embarked on a major digital transformation project – named Project Optimus - that will deliver a new database and member portal early in 2020, followed by the integration of our other administration and communications systems and a brand new website by early 2021.
IOM3 is pleased to have appointed Margaret Copland, CEng, CSci, FIMMM Senior Wells & Technology Manager at the Oil and Gas Authority and a board member of the Oil and Gas Division as the Vice Chair of the IOM3 Technology Communities Board.
On 12 November, IOM3 held its first Technology Communities Board Annual Forum in London. The aim of the forum was to introduce technical communities and divisional chairs to the Strategic Advisors and for the various IOM3 divisions to share best practices, challenges and to help shape the Institute’s events calendar going forward.
Following the success of the IOM3 Advisory Council elections and having confirmed 15 vacancies representing IOM3 Grades and Regions, the first meeting took place on 5 November to celebrate and officially welcome the new governance structure.
This is Engineering Day will take place on 6 November 2019. It is a campaign to bring engineering to life for young people, and give more people the opportunity to pursue a career that is rewarding, future shaping, varied, well paid and in-demand.
