Critical Structural Integrity Challenges for Wind Energy in the UK

Exploring the materials and structural integrity challenges facing this growing industry

The next course will take place on Wednesday 4 September 2024.

As the need for renewable energy increases, the demand for onshore and offshore wind energy generation facilities continues to grow.  The UK is a global leader in power generation from offshore wind and this accolade owes its success to the materials and technology used in the construction of these complex installations. Structural integrity is vital in remote locations, be they off our coast or on our moors, and materials engineers are playing a vital role in ensuring that the turbines and associated infrastructure operate without a hitch for prolonged periods.

This new, one-day course that we are running in collaboration with FESI, explores the critical structural integrity challenges that must be considered when planning a new facility.

Who should attend this course?

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in the structural integrity challenges facing the UK wind industry.

What will the course cover?

The course will cover the following topics:

  • The importance of wind energy for the UK's energy mix
  • Machine loading in wind turbines
  • Structural design considerations
  • Regulatory requirements and assessment methodologies
  • Future trends

There will also be the opportunity to expore some case studies.

How much does the course cost?

The fee for this one day course is £595+VAT at 20% where applicable.  IOM3 members and subscribers to our Business Partner Programme, and FESI members are entitled to a discount of 10% on the course fee.
