Energy and the Environment – Materials Making the Difference

27 Jun 2019

Co-sponsored by the IOM3 Energy Materials Group and the Society for the Environment

The United Nations’ International Panel on Climate Change recently presented a report which summarised the results from over 6,000 research papers. The report concluded that urgent action is needed to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Failure will have dire consequences, with extreme weather and sea rises predicted.
This will be a half day event (registration from 10.30, lunch at 12.00, conference commencing at 13.00, finishing at 18.00) which will focus on how materials are making a difference in the fields of energy generation, storage and energy use and saving. There will be speakers from the Universities of Swansea, Sheffield Hallam, Loughborough, Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham, and from Uniper, and Siemens.  We have secured a prestigious venue for the event, the National Space Centre at Leicester. There will be an opportunity for early arrivals to visit the exhibition area, and this is included in the registration fee.
Who should attend: Anyone who requires an understanding of how developments in materials contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in power generation, developments in power storage and distribution, and reduction in energy consumption.
Fees: IOM3 student members, £25; student non-members £35; IOM3 retired members, £35; IOM3 members and Society of the Environment members, £75; non-members, £120, inclusive of refreshments.
Sponsorship: Sponsors are welcome at all levels, with packages starting at £199. See poster (pdf 137 KB) with details.
