This grade of membership is intended for those working in an industry or field relating to one or other of the technical areas represented by the Institute, but for where our professional grades of membership are not achieveable or relevant. (See our list of technical divisions, societies and groups.)
Suitable applicants should hold a responsible position in a non-technical area such as law, marketing, teaching, sales, administration, personnel or accountancy, and may hold a professional qualification in their field of expertise.
Those already paying a subscription to a non-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professional body are entitled to a discount of 50% on the Companion grade annual membership fee.
Successful applicants will be entitled to call themselves a ‘Companion of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining’, although it is planned to introduce a formal post nominal in the not too distant future. In addition Companions will have access to a wide range of member benefits (MS Excel, 68k). These include a monthly copy of the IOM3 members’ magazine, Materials World.
How to apply
Applicants will need to complete a Companion grade application form, which can be download at the bottom of the page, or apply online as an Affiliate and contact the Membership Department about an upgrade. The application needs to be supported by one current member of the Institute who holds the grade of either Technician (TIMMM); Associate Member (AIMMM); Professional Member (MIMMM); or Fellow (FIMMM).
Enquiries and completed application forms should be submitted electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively you can contact us on +44 (0) 1476 515761.
