CIE Award paper
The CIE Award this year went to Eur Ing Vince Ludlow, for his paper entitled "Personal Motorised Transport Post 2040: Only for the Wealthy?", which considered technical as well as socio-ecconomic factors of the change to electric vehicles. Currently there are few charging facilities for electric car drivers, and the ones that are available offer a choice of several different socket types and payment options, necessitating the driver having to carry a variety of plugs! Many charging facilities are out of action at any time, and access to personal charging at home will be an issue for many homes without garages/drives with a feasible electric supply. There will also be issues to address regarding power availability for charging, since the National Grid is working near to capacity at present.
