There was a good attendnace at the STEM CEntre at Middlesbrough College for a lecture by Stephen Irish. Commercial Director of Hyperdrive Innovation. Their new premises are 1 mile away from Nissan for good reason. They purchase Nissan's Li-ion battery technology to use with their battery management systems. These are based on a standard cell, which can be linked to give the required power supply, and co-ordinated with Hyperdrive's battery management system. Applications they are developing include airpcraft push-off vehicles at airports, streetsweepers, load-shifting for wind and solar power generation, and construction equipment. The use of modules of standard cells makes for flexibility in applications and makes developing systems for new applications more ecconomic.
