Associate Member (AIMMM)
The Associate Member grade AIMMM is recognition from the Institute of your experience, knowledge and understanding in a technical discipline associated with the Institute.
The work of an Associate Member demands a practical approach, sound technical judgement and personal responsibility for maintaining and managing applications of current and developing technology in materials and natural resources in one or more of the following: exploration, extraction, processing, forming, selection, application, development, research, manufacturing, reuse, repurposing and recycling.
Suitable applicants for this grade:
- hold the minimum of a RQF Level 5/SCQF Level 8 qualification such as a HND or equivalent, in a relevant engineering, science, technology or environmental subject
- have at least 3 years relevant working experience. This can include time spent completing a PhD
Individuals looking to attain professional membership MIMMM in the fullness of time, are welcome to apply for AIMMM as an interim level of recognition.

If you are already a member:
- a copy of your CV/resume
- a copy of your degree/qualification(s) certificates, unless these have previously been submitted to the Institute
If you are not already a member you will also have to submit a completed Professional Membership form.
Application for Competent Person Registration
Those seeking to apply for professional registration as a Registered Scientist (RSci), must hold the membership grade of AIMMM or MIMMM or FIMMM at the time of application. Those applying for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) must also hold the minimum of a Level 6 qualification such as a Bachelor's degree.
