Mark Jolly, Professor of Sustainable Manufacturing, Cranfield University and Vice Chair of the IOM3 Sustainable Development Group, discusses the fact that predictions for the future of manufacturing tend to focus on fast, adaptable networked systems and customised delivery. However that’s still taking the availability of resources as a given, for instance, cars are only in actual use for around 7% of their total lifetime in which case why do we buy them to sit idle?.
