Professional Member (MIMMM)

This professional grade can be applied for as a standalone qualification or with registration from the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer (CEng); the Science Council as a Chartered Scientist (CSci); or with the Society for the Environment as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).

It requires an accredited Level 7 qualification such as a Master’s degree or an equivalent package of qualifications in a relevant engineering, science or technology subject, coupled with 4 to 5 years training and responsible experience.

Professional Members are usually expected to exercise independent technical judgement in both practical experience and the application of engineering or scientific or environmental principles. They will be innovative in technical matters through the activities of materials and natural resources selection, application, development, research and manufacturing technology. In addition they will normally have direct responsibility for the management or mentoring or guidance of technical staff and other resources.

Individuals wishing to apply for CEng and not holding a Master’s degree or equivalent package of qualifications should refer to this alternative route.

Individuals wishing to apply for CSci or CEnv and not holding a Masters' degree or equivalent package of qualifcations may do so through the Equivalence Route, and should contact the Membership Department for further details and guidance.

Making an application

Membership Application Form
All applicants are required to submit a completed Professional Grade application form in addition to the documentation detailed in the guide.  There are different forms for new and existing members of IOM3 and you must ensure that you complete the correct one.

Referee Form
Applications must be supported by two referees who have known the applicant for a minimum of 2 years.
