Professional Member (MIMMM)
The Professional Member grade can be applied for as a standalone or with registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council; a Chartered Scientist (CSci) from the Science Council; and/or a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) with the Society for the Environment.
It requires an accredited Level 7 qualification such as a Master’s degree or an equivalent package of qualifications in a relevant engineering, science or technology subject, coupled with 4 to 5 years training and responsible experience.
Those who commenced their degree studies before 1999 may apply for this grade and/or CEng registration with an accredited Level 6 qualification such as a Bachelor's degree or equivalent package of qualifications in a relevant engineering, science or technology subject, coupled with 4 to 5 years training and responsible experience.
Those who do not possess the necessary level of qualifications may still apply for this grade with Chartered registration through either the Technical Report Route (CEng) or the Equivalance Route (CSci and CEnv).
Professional Members are usually expected to exercise independent technical judgement in both practical experience and the application of engineering or scientific or environmental principles. They will be innovative in technical matters through the activities of materials and natural resources selection, application, development, research and manufacturing technology. In addition they will normally have responsibility for the management or mentoring or guidance of technical staff and other resources. This may be directly in a line managament role, or through a matrix management system or a supply chain.
