The Institute offers a range of industry-recognised packaging courses and qualifications, as a result of the merger in 2005 of the former Institute of Packaging (IoP) with IOM3. These include PIABC accredited qualifications as well as training for specific sectors of the packaging industry.

Packaging training is delivered by IOM Communications Ltd on behalf of The Packaging Society, a Division of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. IOM Communications Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

Other Courses, Seminars and Workshops

Packaging for the Pharmaceutical sector - 3 days

This course is intended for people who have a direct involvement in packaging operations within the pharmaceutical industry. This includes the production, development, technology, purchasing, QA/QC, marketing, regulatory and auditing functions.

This course provides the required packaging knowledge for people training to become Qualified Persons within the meaning of the EC legislation.

Printing for Packaging

A course specifically for non-printers who wish to know all about print across the main packaging printing methods. This is a technical and practical course with plenty of learning and methodologies to help you understand the technical terminology, quality and choice.

Corporate Training

Training for Success with The Packaging Society is a unique and tailor-made package of courses to meet the exact training needs of individual companies. It allows employees from all functions and levels to gain an appreciation of packaging technology, jargon and processes, whilst placing them on a pathway to further skill development and qualifications. Corporate partners benefit from undertaking the certificate and Diploma at their premises. Alternatively we can tailor courses to suit their specific packaging requirement.

Packaging and the Environment

For those companies wanting to understand their cost base and find ways not only of saving money but also increasing quality and efficiency, this is the practical side to the Essential Requirements. Part A investigates material specifications, design and machinery. Factory audits can also be part of the program as Part B.

Pack Testing

Nobody wants product wastage, least of all in transit between production and store, where damage to packs and product results in delay, claim, expense and huge inconvenience. Making sure that your packaging will survive the distribution channel and deliver your product intact and in perfect condition to the consumer is a fundamental part of the job.

This one-day course helps delegates to select packaging fit for purpose - getting products to the customer safely, securely and cost-effectively.

Assignment Preparation

Students who take the Diploma and Certificate courses need to submit an assignment(s) as part of the qualification.  The Packaging Society offer an assignment preparation day to assist students in the planning, research and writing of their assignment.
