Student Starpack Awards winners 2010
The Student Starpack Awards were held alongside the schools awards ceremony in Grantham on 13 May. As college and university courses change, Starpack introduces new briefs relevant to a range of courses, including graphics, structural/product design, materials and technology. The winners of the sponsored awards are as follows:
- The Benson Group Award for Food on the go went to Blair Wightman from Adam Smith College, Kirkcaldy. Wightman was recognised for exception graphics and strong constructional design with carefully considered materials.
- Boxer and The Marketing Store's brief was for a McDonalds drive-thru packaging solution. Luke Booth's, University of the Arts London, design to hold the meal in a car was cost effective.
- Felicity Lynch of Swindon College took the BPI Sponsored Award for her premium carrier pack.
- The Britvic Award winner is Louise Talbot, University of Central Lancashire, for her sleek bottle with supporting materials designed to capture the imagination of the target audience, for the J20 bottle design and point-of-sale (POS) brief.
- Royal College of Art, London, student Santi Tonsukha created a distinctive look using corrugated material for his sustainable seed packaging to take the Confederation of Paper Industries brief Corrugated 21st century.
- A motion display POS unit for media market won the DS Smith Packaging Award for Rubén Beltrán of Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, Spain. Beltrán received £500. DS Smith’s two further prizes were taken by Emma Forshaw and Charlotte Phillips, both from Swindon College.
- Liquid containers for the kitchen environment won Nathan Singh at Nottingham Trent University the Logoplaste Award for attention to details and flowing lines.
- The Coca Cola Company created a brief for New tea packaging, won by Sun Young Park, Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design London, for combining functionality with simple, well designed graphics.
- The Coca Cola Company Graduate Brief was won by Tom Servante, formerly from the University of Arts, London, for his design fitting the brand values of Powerades.
- A contemporary Marks & Spencer Christmas card package won Scott Frazer, University Campus Suffolk, the Tigerprint Award.
The Eric Dickens Award is given to the college which has produced the best entries. With an impressive one commended, two bronze, three gold and three sponsored awards, Swindon College took the trophy.
In the Dragons’ Den competition the six best
students pitched their model to an audience and five Dragons
representing the sponsors Britivic Soft Drinks, Tigerprint,
Boxer,
Confederation Paper Industries and DS Smith Packaging. Blair Wightman
received
the title Student Starpack Champion and a cheque for £100.
