The Starpack Awards have been given a new format as they enter their 53rd year of rewarding innovation in packaging design and technology. The 2012 awards will have several different categories as ever but, for the first time, the best of Schools, Students and Industry will be brought together in a full-day event.

The change of format will give younger winners the chance to interact with those who are already a success in the packaging and design industry and will also allow for structured and informal networking opportunities for everyone who attends.

The 2012 Starpack Awards will take place on 12 July, offering a display of all the award-winning entries, a prestigious keynote speaker from the industry, as well as parallel breakout sessions with topics aimed at assisting professional development.  

The 2012 categories are as follows:

• Luxury and giftware
• Non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages
• Food
• Health and beauty care
• Other (consumer)
• Pack/product integration
• Graphic design and decoration
• Retail ready/point of sale
• Structural design
• Technical innovation
• Special award – Green Star environment and sustainability
• Special recognition awards – Packaging superstar and Overall award for packaging innovation   
• Additional Highly Commended awards to those who are close to the standard.  

The 2012 Starpack Schools and Students awards are fully supported by: Coca-Cola, DS Smith Packaging, Britvic Soft Drinks, The Benson Group, Logoplaste and BPI Consumer Promopak. The Industry awards also attract big names, Crown Speciality Packaging said ‘Starpack is an important opportunity to raise awareness and gives us the opportunity to showcase our technologies.’  

Pharmaceutical design company Protomed have spoken of the value of entering the awards, saying ‘we entered the awards because we wanted to benchmark our product and progress against the best in the market. We intend to enter again in 2012 as winning is what ambition is all about.’
