Competition) and Barry Lye (IOM3 President)Katie Moore from the South East region has won the 2010 Young Persons' Lecture Competition with a talk on the detection of arsenic and selenium in cereal grains.

The Competition, held on 28 April in London, is an annual event that tests the presentation skills of the participants, who are all under 29 years of age. Katie, who received £750 and a medal, is studing for a DPhil at the University of Oxford.

Scooping second place was South West entrant, Michael James. An engineering doctorate student at Swansea University, his talk reflected on work with Corus Strip Products UK investigating radiant tube failure mechanisms.

In third place was Andrew Wilson, from Corus, who represented the North East with his 15-minute talk on pre-cambering train rails.
