See the Chilean miner rescue capsule

Fénix 2, the capsule used to rescue the 33 men trapped in a Chilean mine in October 2010, is to go on show at the Science Museum in London from 11 February.

The miners spent 69 days trapped in San José mine in Chile’s Atacama Desert before a the capsule brought them back to the surface one by one.

‘Fénix 2: Icon of the Chilean mine rescue’ highlights the remarkable technical challenges involved in the rescue, an operation that require hundreds of engineers, technicians and scientists.

The free display, which includes interviews with key personnel involved in the rescue, opens on February 11 and runs until May 13.
