Schools Starpack Packaging Design Awards Open for Entry 2010

The Schools Starpack Packaging Design Awards are now open for entry  with four exciting challenges for 2010, including a plastic brief, a carton board brief and a materials research brief.    The British Polythene Industries sponsor has promised to dye his hair purple for the May 2010 Awards Ceremony!

A variety of prizes will be offered to winning schools including financial rewards up to £500. Entrants have until March 5 to register their entry and until March 18 to get their work in.

The briefs are:

POS display for Apple iphone! The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3) is challenging schools' Key Stage 4 students to design an innovative new application for the iphone, and an accompanying interactive POS unit to display and promote the product.  This is a materials research brief aimed at students working in teams.

Insect or small reptile carrier! Schools will also be challenged to produce an insect or small reptile carrier suitable for a variety of travel methods to be sold through pet shops and garden centres and also be used as a home for your pet while you are away. British Polythene Industries are asking that the pack is made from 75% polythene (material available) and 25% of a material of the student's choice.  The polythene brief is always a challenge for students and Mike Baxter, Managing Director. BPI Consumer - Promopack, has publicly stated that if 30 or more entries are received into this brief, then he will dye his hair purple for the Awards Ceremony!

Themed chocolate gift pack  made from cartonboard is The Benson Group's  challenge for Key Stage 3, 4 & AS students. The task is to design and produce a new distinctive and fun chocolate pack to contain between 4 and 6 specialist chocolates of your choice.

New Ribena drink bottle! Logoplaste UK's design brief asks Key Stage 4 & AS Level students to produce a new shape bottle to replace the current packaging for the Ribena product, in either its ready to drink or concentrate formats.
