Schools Starpack Awards winners

Held at The Packaging Society’s headquarters in Grantham, schools and colleges turned out for the 2010 Schools Starpack Awards on 13 May.

From over 200 entries, eight gold, 20 silver, 18 bronze and 18 Highly Commended were awarded, along with sponsored prizes for the best school in each of the four categories. The sponsored award winning schools are listed below.

Insect/small reptile carrier: The prize of £400, sponsored by the British Polythene Industries, went to Reigate School of Art Design and Media. ‘Excellent graphics, a well-made sample together with a most practical solution makes Nicholas Webber's entry a worthy overall school winner,’ said the judges.

Ribena drink in a bottle: The Logoplaste sponsored award was given to Bungay High School. Nigel Sladden, Logoplaste, said the entry ‘used imaginative shapes and good use of graphics which were eye catching and informative. The standard of story boards was particularly noteworthy’.

Themed Chocolate Gift Pack: The Sixth Form College, Farnborough, won the Benson Group prize. Nikki Clark, Benson’s Creative Designer, said there was, ‘an exceptional range of innovative ideas from all students, high quality, well-finished models which demonstrate exciting opening features.’

Materials Research Brief (POS display for Apple iPhone): St George’s College of Technology took the IOM award for effective research to generate ideas, and good use of imaging and thought processes.
