Judges eye vintage year for Schools and Student Starpack Awards

Judging has taken place in the 2010 Students and Schools Starpack awards for packaging design and innovation.

The Schools Starpack competition 2010 had 202 entries of which 66 took highly commended, bronze, silver and gold awards.

"It was great to see such student interest in packaging and its integration to the education syllabus, supported by wonderful creative ideas and some truly excellent folio presentations," commented Peter Sevenoaks, Director, IDI Pac Ltd. "It was a pleasure to be asked to judge."

The Student Starpack competition had 157 entries against 10 briefs. "Having been on the panel for the last four years," said Tim Lynch, Packaging Artwork Manager, Britvic Soft Drinks Limited, "I am delighted to say that the quality of entries this year has been one of the best in that period with our awarding 12 Gold, 7 Silver and 7 Bronze Student Starpack Stars."

The awards ceremony for both Student and Schools Starpack 2010 will be held at The Boilerhouse in Grantham on 13 May, and will feature presentations from packaging recruitment company Mercury Search & Selection on CV writing and interview techniques, and from Jane Skeleton, Packaging Technologist for Sainsbury's.

There will also be networking opportunities and a display of all the winning entries. In a new feature for the 2010 competitions, the top six gold winners will have five minutes to present their work in a Dragons' Den style event. A panel of five "dragons" will select the overall winner who will be presented with a £100 cheque.

Designed to encourage students to take up a career in the exciting world of consumer packaging design, the Schools and Student Starpack awards form part of the Starpack Awards programme, established in 1960.  This also includes the Starpack Industry Awards which will culminate in its annual prizegiving ceremony in London on 23 September 2010.
