IOM3 Accreditation for Shell
Shell's graduate engineer development programme for well engineering, materials and corrosion disciplines in Aberdeen was recently accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) meaning that on completing the programme Shell engineers working in these disciplines can now apply for Chartered Engineer status.
Working with Aberdeen based representatives of the IOM3 Petroleum & Drilling Engineering Division, Shell's internal Competence Assessment programme was mapped against the UK Engineering Council's requirements for Chartered Engineers to provide a relatively simple way to apply for professional registration.
Attending the roll out in Aberdeen David Arthur, Head of IOM3 Membership Services, said: "I am very impressed with Shell's commitment to staff development and now that the scheme has IOM3 endorsement it will hopefully encourage many more to apply for professional registration."
Paul Dumont , Senior Well Engineer at Shell in Aberdeen, commented "As Shell well engineers already go through a rigorous training and development programme, they have not always appreciated the benefits of external registration.
“The IOM3 now gives them a relatively straightforward and practical way to enhance their qualifications and demonstrate continuing professional development.”
