What's the future made of?

Materials UK, the industry supported network established last year to raise the profile and awareness of materials activities within the UK, has launched a further groundbreaking report entitled 'What's the Future Made Of? Materials for a Modern World'.

Recognising the important views of young people in the delivery of a sustainable future, the report identifies the views of youth regarding materials and their application, and the image of the sector. Aspects of recycling and re-use are also covered.

The document was officially launched at the Association of Science Education conference held in January 2007 in Birmingham, and was endorsed as a valuable classroom resource for science and design and technology teachers. Materials UK intends to maintain the involvement of younger groups and schools in its future work.

Materials UK was established as a result of the Materials Innovation and Growth Team (IGT) which ran from January 2005 until March 2006. It is a representative body set up to take forward the strategy recommended by the IGT and to build on the momentum created by the IGT within the community. Materials UK will seek out opportunities where the materials community working together can seize global advantage for the benefit of companies operating in the UK.
