Expanding and Maintaining the Manchester Metrolink Tram System

Manchester Metrolink Tram

David Everson, Senior Engineer, Transport for Greater Manchester will highlight some of the
challenges associated with the current work to extend the Greater Manchester tram system to
more than double the previous size.

A total of 74 yellow and silver M5000 Bombardier trams have been ordered. They have capacity for
206 passengers and are ten tonnes lighter than the original fleet. They will serve the expanding
network with new lines to Manchester Airport, East Didsbury, Ashton-under-Lyne, Oldham and Rochdale.

The Metrolink has now been in operation for 18 years and the new engineering work has to be undertaken while continuing to maintain and operate the original system, of which many of the assets date back to the 19th Century.

                                        SHOULD BE FASCINATING!!

The event is to be held at the Holiday Inn, Royal Victoria – Sheffield.
Coffee and Biscuits at 5.30, presentation at 6.00.

                              Non-Members are most welcome.
