Environmental campaign launched by plastics industry

The plastics industry has launched a campaign to challenge itself, UK Government and consumers to increase recycling rates and decrease the amount of plastics sent to landfill.

The Plastics 2020 Challenge, backed by MPs, is the first time plastics manufacturers and processors have set their own environmental targets. The plastics industry is pledging commitments on the 'four Rs': reduce, reuse, recycle and recover, including doubling the recycling rate of plastic packaging by 2020.

The campaign challenges the government, environmental groups and consumers to join forces with the industry to get more out of the resources we all use. ‘Plastics have become indispensable to our daily lives, and yet debate surrounding their use and disposal has become unhelpfully polarised. The urgent challenge is to confront head on these issues which surround one of modern life’s essential materials,’ says Calum Forsyth, Plastics 2020 Challenge.
