Applied Earth Science publishes special issue on chromitite deposits

Published in December 2009, this special issue of Applied Earth Science is dedicated to advances in the understanding of chromitite deposits.

Ophiolites and layered intrusions are important sources of chromium ore. Genetic models for the formation of different types of chromitite ore need to be advanced to improve exploitation of these deposits. This requires a greater understanding of the processes that trigger chromitite precipitation, and the mechanisms by which it is removed from the magma body and concentrated into layers or bodies.  This special issue consists of papers specially commissioned by the guest editors, Sisir K. Mondal, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Iain McDonald, Cardiff University, UK, to review current research in this field.

Sisir Mondal and Iain McDonald’s editorial is available to view online for free and gives a full list of contents for the special issue.

The Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy, section B Applied Earth Science is devoted to all aspects of the application of the earth sciences in the discovery, exploration, development and exploitation of all forms of mineral resources. The journal’s broad range of interest serves an internal readership whose common concern is knowledge and use of the earth’s mineral resources on land and beneath the sea. Sister publications; Mining Technology and Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy extend coverage of the minerals industry.
