Times is inviting papers until 31 March. To be held from 20-23
September in Kuala Lumpur, the technical programme will explore materials and processes that can meet industry and society demand.

Tom Bell, who died in April 2008 aged 66,was an influential figure in establishing the discipline of surface engineering, a term he has a strong claim to have invented. He was also, in 1985, the founding editor of the journal Surface Engineering, which is marking its twenty-fifth anniversary with a special issue dedicated to his memory. Edited by Dr Hanshan Dong, his colleague at University of Birmingham, UK, the issue contains 16 specially commissioned articles detailing the state of the art in areas where Professor Bell made an active research contribution together with three personal appreciations by former colleagues and collaborators.
