2018 IOM3 Premier Awards dinner

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) presented the 2018 Premier Awards to winners at a black tie event in London on 3 July.

The prestigious IOM3 awards, medals and prizes that were given out on the evening acknowledged individuals and Local Societies for their achievements, published work and contributions to the profession.

Following a champagne reception, IOM3 President Martin Cox CEng FIMMM presented the esteemed awards.  

Among the guests were joint Platinum Medal winners, Professor Neil Alford MBE FREng of Imperial College and Professor Phil Withers FRS FREng FRAeS FIMMM of University of Manchester, and Professor Ruth Cameron FIMMM from University of Cambridge, who was presented the Griffith Medal and Prize. FAME (Flexible And Mobile Economic Mineral Processing Technologies) representatives were also present to collect the Institute's Medal for Excellence. Anna Ploszajski EngD MEng, winner of the Silver Medal, also attended the ceremony.

The Frank Paine Packaging Award, for outstanding contribution to the Packaging community on a global basis, was presented for the first time to David Edwards CSci FIMMM.

Local societies were also recognised on the night. The IOM3 Hong Kong branch was awarded the Local Society of the Year (Large) and MinSouth Local Society of the Year (Small) awards.
