The 59th annual Starpack Packaging Industry Innovation Awards
The Starpack Packaging Industry Innovation Awards took place at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, London, on Thursday 22 February.
The red carpet event celebrated industry professionals, packaging manufacturers, designers and brand owners, who continue to push the limits of technical expertise and innovation in packaging.
David Wiggins, Chair of the Starpack Advisory Group, said, ‘The entries this year showed the impact packaging has in a truly diverse range of industries.’
‘I would like to thank and congratulate all our entrants for the time taken to explain your work especially those who won one of the 9 Gold Awards, 13 Silver Star Awards and 15 Bronze Star Awards. Thank you to all of you for sharing your expertise. I look forward to seeing yet more exciting innovations next year,’ said Wiggins.
Paul Lowes, Designer and Technical Sales for Smurfit Kappa Leeds, received the prestigious Packaging Star of the Year Award, for his ‘Shop In A Box’ pack.
The judges said, ‘Paul demonstrates not only a great passion for intelligent design, but also a need for delivering the best solution through effective use of materials and structures. With focus on environmental priorities, commercial practicalities and the need for consumer inclusive design, his pack design shows attention to the right detail.’
Packaging Team of the Year was awarded to SAICA Pack and Diageo, for their collaborative spirits case optimisation project. The judges said, ‘This project entry clearly demonstrated the effective teamwork between business and across disciplines to deliver tangible results.’
Special thanks to this year’s judging panel, consisting of Mike Swain, John Lamb, David McGowan, Alaster Yoxall, Chris Peach, Nikki Clark, Brian Lodge and David Wiggins.
