In March 2015, Ian Richards CEnv RSci AIMMM became the first person to become a Registered Scientist through the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). He is a member of IOM3 and the Society for the Environment.

Education and qualifications:

Chartered Environmentalist, Registered Scientist, BSc(Hons), Dip.Env Pol, PGCPSE.

Place of study:

Staffordshire University and Open University.

Current role:

Technologist at Imerys

Ian has been involved with materials (specialising in ceramics) for almost 30 years. His career to date has been scientific and technology based.

Currently, he conducts a multidisciplinary role, where science (material, chemical, geological) work alongside environmental and quality related issues.

Ian said, ‘I think being registered sends a strong signal to potential or existing customers, clients and employers, that you have taken steps to ensure your competence and experience can be trusted and relied upon’.
