The final of the Malaysian Young Persons' Lecture Competition was held at the Seri Pacific Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 14 May 2014 and Losini A P Amarasan was awarded first prize for her talk on Silica Fibre: The Next Materials For Thermoluminescence Dosimeter (TLD).

The five finalists had taken part in regional and semi final competition to reach the final and were very accomplished indeed, the very narrowest of margins finally separating all five competitors at the end of the evening. Following the event, the competitors were presented with their prizes at a gala dinner held to celebrate the Materials Convention which was running concurrently.

Second place was awarded to Kudzai Nigel Chitewe with his talk on Nanoparticles, and third place went to Mohd Saidina Bin Dandan Satia who spoke about Epoxy Composites.

Losini will represent Malaysia in the Young Persons' World Lecture Competition final which is to be held at Riverside, California later this year.
