IOM3(HK) arranged a technical site visit to the Green Island Cement Plant on 12 April 2014.
Green Island Cement was originally established in 1886 in Macau and was subsequently incorporated in Hong Kong in January 1887. The Company operated its cement manufacturing in Hok Un and its distribution depot in Sai Wan, with both facilities decommissioned in the late 1980s. The cement plant at Tap Shek Kok was built in 1982 and is the only fully integrated cement manufacturing facility in Hong Kong.
A presentation on both the plant and the cement manufacturing process was received, following which participants were taken on a tour of the cement manufacturing operations, which included a visit tothe cement packaging workshop, the jetty where raw materials are unloaded, the limestone storage yard, the rotary kiln (where clinker is produced) and the laboratory, which includes a continuous robotic material analysis operation.
