Institute Fellow receives Royal Society award

An Institute Fellow has received the prestigious Armourers and Brasiers Award from the Royal Society.

Professor Philip Withers FREng FIMMM, Professor of Materials Science and Director of the Henry Moseley X-ray Imaging Facility at Manchester, was acknowledged for his work on neutron and X-ray beams. Use of these beams to map stresses and detect defects has application in the aeroplane and nuclear industries.

Philip said, ‘Through this work we can gain a unique picture of materials and how they perform in 3D. I am delighted to have this recognition from the Royal Society’.
