The EPSRC has launched a consultation as part of a review
of UK mechanical engineering. The Materials, Mechanical and Medical
Engineering programme at EPSRC is conducting the review from December to February.
Head of Programme, Mark Claydon-Smith, said, 'EPSRC wishes to understand the achievements and
capabilities of UK mechanical engineering research - the global
prominence and significance of UK researchers and their contribution to
national life. We need to understand whether the UK research community is prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead, and EPSRC needs
to identify where and how it might best support these ambitions'.
The survey is particularly interested in areas that have had less coverage in previous EPSRC evaluation such as:
- Heat and Mass Transfer
- Engineering Dynamics and Tribology
- Mechanical and Fluid Power Transmission
- Engineering of Materials, Properties, and Testing: Mechanical
The findings will be published in Spring 2011.
