The London Materials Society (LMS) is a local society of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining. The society meets regularly to discuss every aspect of Materials from Ice Cream manufacture to the recent nanotechnology developments! All events, usually held at the Institute's headquarters at 1 Carlton House Terrace, start at 6.30 pm (unless otherwise stated) with tea and biscuits provided from 6 pm and mostly end with a light buffet. They are open to the public and free of charge. (Programme for 2012-2013 session). 

The LMS also hosts the London regional heats for the Young Persons’ Lecture Competition (YPLC). If you are under 28 and would like to take part in the Lecture Competition (usually held in February) you can download the Rules and Regulation and the Entry form.

The Society also coordinates the June Wilson Award. This is an endowment from Professor Larry Hench in commemoration of his late wife’s achievements in biomedical materials research. 

The Annual Schools Event (held in June every year) is aimed at school children from the age of 14 years and upwards and is designed to allow teachers and school children to cover aspects of the science/technology school curriculum and to interact with materials experts from London based Universities.
