    Dr Bernie Rickinson, IOM3 Chief Executive, has confirmed to Trustees and the principal boards of the Institute his intent to retire from the Institute at the end of 2018.

  • Engineering body, IOM3 achieves apprenticeship accreditation status

    A team from the Institute has been working with an industrial consortium over the last 18 months to develop an apprenticeship standard at level 3 which best meets the knowledge and skills needs of the multifaceted and economically significant industries that operate in the composites sector.

    The International Panel for the Charles Hatchett Award is currently in the process of identifying suitable papers related to the science and technology of niobium for consideration for the 2018 Award.

    The Iron and Steel Society (ISS) Board of IOM3 wish to improve communications within the iron and steel `community` and are in the process of revising its website, making it more user-friendly and increasing the scope for more up-to-date and varied content. As part of this process we will publish a newsletter after each Board meeting, highlighting the main topics discussed, producing a regular news item from a Board member, and inviting feedback, comments on potential future activities, and so on.
  • Grantham library gets materials and mining collections

    Another important bank of metals and materials documents was recently moved to join the mining and materials collections in the new library facility at the IOM3 Grantham Centre in the East Midlands. The collection, known as the National Materials and Mining Archive, dates back to 1869 and has historic archival links to the founder fathers of the Iron and Steel Institute.
