Packaging R&D is a key strategic capability in pladis. Growing our core and driving innovation is a critical part of our business model, along with continuous improvement in quality and cost.  The role holder is a member of the pladis Global Packaging team which has the following overall purpose:

  • Build and maintain an aligned Packaging Development Strategy

  • Own & deliver quality Packaging Specifications

  • Provide innovative, cost effective, optimised & simplified solutions

  • Create partnerships, relationships - internal & external (TIF, OI, Discover)

The Global Packaging team is based at our Global Headquarters in Hayes however due to locations of our sites we are open to consider candidates who are flexible towards travel and based near our Northern factories in Manchester, Aintree and Carlisle.

In partnership with business partners, including Marketing, Operations, Sales, Consumer Insights and the regional technical leaders, you will identify and lead the packaging bottom line growth activity for present and future packaging needs for pladis, with a key focus on scale and supporting business priorities.

The Packaging Productivity Specialist CBR job

Identify and lead the simplification packaging strategy Cross Category and within Categories for Fibre

  • Understand business requirements

  • Translate needs into Packaging deliverables

  • Create a credible roadmap enrolling partner functions and business commitment

Deliver key priorities into regions ensuring adequate resourcing & capability

  • Collaborative team leadership to deliver Programs/ Projects

  • Intervention as required to meet deadlines and business case requirements

  • Manage resources pragmatically and flexibly across the Packaging community

Create 3 year Packaging Pipeline (2x sufficiency) across and for the Categories

  • Translate key Insights to potential platforms/ dig sites collaborating with partner functions

  • Generate and validate credible business solutions into roadmap (Bottom line)

  • Obtain Category commitment to roadmap

  • Engage ‘supply’ functions to deliver on time and to cost

Develop and nurture Talent in the organization in particular Project Leadership

Essential Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Packaging, Engineering, Design and/ or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in Packaging Development and project management related roles in FMCG

  • Working knowledge of Packaging systems applicable to pladis product range

  • Working Knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, deep fibre based materials expertise is preferred. Across pladis,flexible films, rigid plastics, paper & board materials are widely used.

  • Working Knowledge of Design for Manufacture and interfaces with Packaging Machinery.

  • Packaging legislation understanding.

  • Packaging specification development.

  • Multi-functional team interaction and good communication skills at all levels

  • Any experience related to simplification programs and cost base reduction within packaging would be a distinct advantage
