Packaging Engineer - Smith & Nephew, Hull

Summary

We are looking for an experienced Packaging Technologist/Engineer to join our team in Hull. The successful candidate will develop and lead packaging projects, including change control projects and activities required to meet UDI project requirements. The role will also include an element of product package design, product labelling requirements and management of specifications for packaging materials.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Generate and control packaging work so that a high standard of accuracy is maintained in order to comply with all internal and external QA/Regulatory bodies, in particular FDA (GMP) and ISO EN4600 requirements.
  • Deliver high quality, timely packaging development, and required documentation for both NPD and changes to existing packs, through project management disciplines and good pack / process design.
  • Provide Packaging expertise to projects & support activities providing an effective service to Hull Site internal departments, S&N China manufacturing Site,  NPWT Team and Global Outsourced Suppliers (including the USA) to meet objectives
  • Responsible for ensuring that packaging development is functional, cost effective and promotes the desired company image.
  • Maintains an awareness of current packaging and sterilization advances and technologies relative to medical devices and/or other health care products and makes appropriate recommendations
  • Lead productivity & cost saving projects including making recommendations for alternative Packaging types.

 

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or extensive experience in a technical / engineering / packaging role.
  • Diploma in Packaging 
  • Member of The Packaging Society preferred
  • Experience on Graphic Design Software preferred (In Design/Illustrator)
  • Self-starting, commercially aware with a strong results orientation.
  • A working knowledge of medical devices / pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, print processes, packaging/materials knowledge and interest. Manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of Change Control processes.
