What are the options for solar radiation management?

What are the options for solar radiation management?

Julian Evans, Chemistry Dept., University College London

6 pm for 6.30 pm start

Abstract:

This talk will summarise the various strategies that have been proposed to reduce sunlight incident on the earth by 1.8%, this being the reduction needed to offset climate forcing due to a doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentration. The methods proposed vary from the downright bizarre to the ineffective and are without exception very costly. Whether they are eventually deployed depends upon the implementation of other methods of climate remediation. They are on the agenda because of  an emerging and hopefully incorrect suspicion that human beings ‘do not do long term planning’ !
