21st Century Rail

01 Nov 2011 - 03 Nov 2011, National Railway Museum, York, UK

Organised by IOM Communications Ltd on behalf of the Rolling Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the first commercial use of steel for rails.

Rail production has evolved considerably in the last 150 years, and now faces new challenges such as producing rail in 120m lengths, improving material properties to increase rail life, providing rail for more demanding applications such as high-speed travel, and combating fatigue and failure.

Recognising this historic milestone, the Rolling Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining is planning a conference, directed towards the requirements of rail users, rail service providers and rail producers.

The conference will be held in York, well known for its railway heritage, and will include the opportunity to spend time in the famous National Railway Museum, plus works visits to the Tata Steel Medium Section Mill, which rolls rail as well as sections, and the Rail Service Centre, both nearby at Scunthorpe.

Online Registration is now open for this event [opens in new window].

The fee to attend is £525.00 plus VAT (£475.00 plus VAT for IOM3 Members) and includes attendance at the sessions, extended abstracts on CD, PowerPoint presentations (subject to authors' persmissions), transportation to the works visits, all lunches and refreshment breaks as indicated in the programme and the conference dinner at the National Railway Museum on 2 November.
