Abstract

The metallurgy of the carat gold alloys, sterling silver, platinum and palladium alloys in terms of their alloying behaviour and mechanical properties will be briefly considered.  Recent developments in microalloying, tarnish resistant alloys and materials such as precious metal clays will be discussed.  Finally, modern jewellery manufacturing processes

will be reviewed.

 

About the Speaker

Mark Grimwade has a long career experience in jewellery technology, and currently works as consultant to the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.  He is an acknowledged authority in the metallurgy of precious metals, having contributed many papers and written the standard text in the field - 'Introduction to Precious Metals'.


Tea & Biscuits at 1800 & a buffet at 1930 hrs. The lecture is open to non-members & is free.
