Microalloyed Steels, Production, Properties, Applications
13- 14 November 2007
1 Carlton House Terrace, London
Scope
The Steel Division of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining has a long history of informal meetings aimed at promoting discussions on a wide range of topics of interest to those involved in steel related activities.
In recent years subjects have included nitrogen in steel, macrosegregation and in 2006 the very successful meeting on the “Surface Quality of Continuously Cast Semis”.
An area of considerable interest is the development and utilisation of microalloyed steels.
The development of these steel grades began more than 40 years ago when the term “microalloyed” was applied to high strength, low carbon steel containing small amounts of niobium, titanium or vanadium. The steels contain less than 0.1% of the alloy additions either singly or in combination, and alloying is aimed at grain refinement or precipitation strengthening by the formation of carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides. The effects of these alloying elements may be influenced by other alloying elements, for example aluminium, and microalloyed steels now include grades with medium and high carbon contents.
The aim of the Conference is to review the production of microalloyed steels and the influence of processing parameters on steel properties. Application of these microalloyed steels will also be discussed.
