MADE FORUM on Materials Resources for Art, Design & Business

05 Feb 2010, Royal College of Art, London, UK

Following the Spring 2009 gathering of art & design educators at the Institute of Materials in Grantham, the next Materials and Design Exchange (MADE) event will take place at the Royal College of Art on Friday 5 February. MADE is the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) backed organisation connecting the UK's materials science, art and design communities.

THEME
There are a growing number of physical and on-line materials information services for artists, designers and manufacturers, but do you really know what's available locally and nationally? And do you have unmet needs for inspiration, knowledge and experimentation that could help you in the search for the right material?

The MADE Forum will enable us to collectively map what's distintinctive about existing UK materials resources, and to envisage both how access could be improved, and what new resources we might like to see or develop in the future. We plan to hold further MADE forums in 2010/11, exploring materials access in relation to light-weighting and design for the Paralympics.

EXHIBITION

To provide a context for the Forum, you will have a chance to visit a work-in-progress exhibition by MA students from the following RCA courses: Architecture, Design Interactions, Innovation Design Engineering, Vehicle Design, Printmaking and Animation. Some work will be for sale or commission.
