London Materials Society - Annual Schools Event

The 8th Annual Schools Event organised by The London Materials Society will take place on the 17th June 2010.  The event is aimed at school children from the age of 14 years and upwards and is designed to allow teachers and school children to cover aspects of the science/technology school curriculum.  This year the event will be hosted at the RAF Museum in London (Colindale).  

It will start at 10 am and finish at 2.15 pm. 

Included are 2 activities;

Aeronauts Interactive CentreThe gallery has over 40 hands on experiments to help students to understand the science of flight. Topics such as air resistance, friction, balances, circuits, light and reflection and G-Forces are covered.

National Curriculum links: Sc3 Materials and their properties, Sc4 Physical processes.
Duration: Approximately 45 minutes
 

and

Rocket SciencePupils can design and make a realistic rocket and launch it safely. The rockets are propelled using an electrically controlled compressed air launcher. This workshop can be held indoors or outdoors.

National Curriculum links: Sc1 Scientific enquiry, Sc4 Physical Processes – Forces and Motion
Duration: Approximately one hour

 

The event is free of charge and includes packed lunches.
