Keeping Track of Sustainable Materials

01 Mar 2011 - 29 Apr 2011, IOM3, London, UK

PhD researcher Sarah Wilkes has curated an interactive exhibition exploring the relationship between sustainability, materials and knowledge transfer.

The 'Keeping Track of Sustainable Materials' display will gather data on how culturally particular understandings of sustainability affect how we select materials. It draws on insights from her research among the IOM3 and Materials KTN communities to explore the tools we use to find out about and determine the most socially and environmentally responsible uses of materials. The study is generating information about the most effective ways of transferring knowledge about ‘sustainable materials’.

The interactive exhibition in the foyer of the Institute’s London headquarters will run until the end of March. To take part, ask at the reception desk.

With thanks to Arlene Birt, Angela Morelli, Avon Rubber, Axion Polymers, Bambu, The British Coatings Federation, Camira Fabrics, Designtex, Exploration Architecture, The Forestry Stewardship Council, Finisterre, GreenGlass, InterfaceFLOR, Moso Bamboo, Polyflor, Tata Steel, Yarwood Leather and worldsteel for kindly providing images, samples and information.
