Advances in Helmet Technology

10 Feb 2011, IOM3, London, UK

Organised by IOM Communications on behalf of the Defence, Safety and Security Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

Supported by the US Army International Technology Centre - Atlantic

The design of advanced helmets and the drive to incorporate new materials and technologies is common to a number of applications including defence, police, sport (motorsport, diving, and snow sports), and construction. Reductions in weight, changes of threat, requirements for improvements in protection, and integration of secondary systems are the drivers behind recent helmet improvement programmes. This conference looked at the latest innovations in this technology, and aimed to encourage a cross fertilisation of ideas from different sectors resulting in improvements in helmet design for the future.

The event also included an awards ceremony for students that had entered a competition, supported by the Materials KTN, to design the next generation of police helmets
