Current Trends in PVC Technology

03 Nov 2009 - 04 Nov 2009, Burleigh Court, Loughborough, UK

Conference Overview

A very popular two day conference concerned with developments in PVC processing, compounds and additives and the interaction between processing, structure and properties. The programme of lectures includes UK and International contributions from industry and academia.

The latest in a long and successful series of triennial conferences; The 2009 conference will aim for the same high standard of papers as in previous years and will cover both rigid and plasticised PVC. The aim is to include sessions on: Sustainability and Recycling, Polymerisation, Additives and Processing and Properties.

The full conference programme will be available on this website from August 2009.

At the previous Loughborough PVC 2006 Conference there were an impressive 24 papers presented over two days by speakers from a number of different countries, with good feedback from delegates. This year attendees will again be provided with a conference pack containing full papers for all presentations.

Conference Organisation

The conference is jointly organised by the Department of Materials at Loughborough University and the PVC Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. This event runs every three years, in phase with the IOM3 International PVC Conference in Brighton.

The Department of Materials at Loughborough University(formerly the Institute of Polymer Technology and Materials Engineering) is an internationally renowned centre for research and teaching in the areas of materials science and engineering. Research in aspects of PVC technology has been carried out for over thirty years. The PVC Innovation Centre was launched at our conference in 2003, and has enabled us to establish links with many companies in the PVC industry at home and abroad. In 2004 we successfully obtained Research Council funding to set up VinylSUM, the UK Research Sustainability network for PVC. In 2005 VinylSUM was awarded a substantial research grant; some of the current PVC research will be presented at this year’s conference.

The PVC Committee of the Polymer Society, a division of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, organises the major international conference on a three year cycle in Brighton in the UK. The most recent conference, and 10th in the series, was in April 2008 with over 450 delegates focusing on the latest issues covering business, technical and sustainability areas.
The committee has a brief to maintain and promote interest in all aspects of poly(vinyl chloride) through its life cycle and develop its many unique properties.
