Coal Mining in the Waterberg Region, South Africa

14 May 2012, William Smith Building, Keele, UK

Western Institute of Mining and Minerals Evening Lecture

Mr Marco Maestri - Parsons Brinckerhoff

A global resurgence for Coal as an energy source is good news for the coal miners of South Africa as they look to maintain the status-quo between in-country power supply and potentially lucrative exports to development-hungry nations such as India. However, the fruitful Witbank reserves are diminishing and, as a result, companies are beginning to look towards the Waterberg area to fill the gap, bringing with it a general strategy for development, paying particular attention to the geology, mining, water supply and market issues the prospective developer faces.

7.00pm

A buffet supper will be served after the lecture. Everyone will be very welcome
