Welcome to the East Midlands Materials Society (EMMS) website
EMMS is a local society affiliated to the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). If you are a Member of the Institute and reside in the East Midlands region then you are automatically a member of East Midlands Materials Society.
Our main function is to organise meetings in the locality of the East Midlands that provide informative talks on diverse subjects relevant to materials and which contribute to continuing professional development for IOM3 members. Aside from this the talks are of general interest and non members are welcome to attend. Our current schedule of events can be downloaded in PDF format below and also found on our events page. If you would like to become an active member of EMMS or have any suggestions for future events then contact any member of the committee.

East Midlands Materials Society – A History
…a message from our Honorary Secretary Dave Evetts.
I am endeavouring to write a history of the Society. I have some old papers, but these only go back to the early 1970’s. I would appreciate any input from anyone who has any recollection of earlier times.The Society began as the East Midlands Metallurgical Society, and retained this title for many years until it was decided, in 2002 to change the name to East Midlands Materials Society, reflecting the broadening of the scope to embrace all materials. Fortuitously, the initials, EMMS remained the same! See attachment below for more details and a list of former presidents that may jog memories.
