Welcome to the website for
IOP: The Packaging Society
The division reflects the
breadth of packaging by drawing its members from the packaging industry and
organisations, academia and the retail sector. Our group meets every three
months at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. We welcome enquiries
and contact from anyone with an interest in packaging.

| The packaging industry is a
large and significant one and is an intensive user of commercially important
materials in high quantities. The sector is characterised by being
multidisciplinary, making it a strong applications division within the
Institute. The packaging industry offers excellent career prospects for
metallurgists, materials scientists and materials engineers.
A key current objective of the
division is to represent important packaging materials and the manufacturing
sectors. Our division focuses and co-ordinates effort towards the advancement of
science, technology and education underpinning the packaging field. We achieved
this by organising events, writing articles for publication and by exploiting
existing synergies with other professional organisations and government bodies.
IOP: The Packaging Society
contributes towards an innovative conference programme and also hosts smaller
discussion events. Commitment to Materials Congress and the Foresight
initiative remains an important priority. We share the
Institute's wish to promote recruitment of active members and continue to
raise the profile of packaging through membership initiatives, the 'Starpack' competition and divisional activities. |
